Michael Tubridy in NYC – Response Needed!

Last winter, Craobh Úll Mór CCÉ was asked to host an evening with MICHAEL TUBRIDY, legendary musician (flute / whistle / concertina) and old-style step dancer, on Saturday, October 13th at the New York Irish Centre (Long Island City). Michael is a founding member of the Chieftains and a wonderful set dancer, as well! He will be in the area for the Northeast Tíonól in East Durham and would like to connect with Comhaltas Branches, musicians, dancers while in the area.

The desired format (suggested by Michael, based on his workshops last fall in Boston) is tentative. We need your response, suggestions, ideas and comments:

  • 3:00 – 5:00 Workshop (either music or old-style step dance or set dance)
  • 6:30 – 7:30 Concert
  • 7:30 Slow Seisiún (to include students)
  • 8:00 – 10:00-ish+ Seisiún & Set Dancing

Maureen Donachie, of the Craobh Úll Mór CCÉ, needs your help, in the form of answers to the following questionnaire:

  1. Would you support (a listener) / participate the evening in some way? yes / no
  2. Would you take part in a music workshop? yes / no
  3. Would participate in a dance workshop? yes / no
    • You may answer “yes” to both workshop questions; we need to ascertain which would have the most support…
  4. Would you take part in the seisiún (musician)? yes / no
  5. Would you participate in set dancing*? yes / no
    • You may answer “yes” to both questions…

* Set dancers, please be advised that two weeks ago, a dance organizer in NJ knowingly scheduled a céilí on this night. Please respond “yes” only if you would truly support THIS event. It will be critical to our decision. TY!

Your responses are essential to our decision whether to continue to plan for this event (or to cancel) and how to structure it to accommodate the participants. Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks very much!
