The Irish music community has suffered another major loss with the passing of Jack Coen.  Born in Woodford, Galway, Jack immigrated to New York in 1949 and soon became active in the area’s growing traditional Irish music scene. He played with the great New York Céilí Band, taught / inspired / encouraged many young aspiring whistle and flute players, was a long-time supporter of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.  In 1991, Jack was honored with the NEA National Heritage Fellow award, nation’s highest honor in the folk and traditional arts.

The Region’s thoughts an prayers go out to the Coen family.
