INTRODUCING THE NEW CENTURY: AMERICAN IRISH-ARTS COMPANY

Washington, D.C. – The New Century will present its first, exciting variety show of Irish Traditional music and dance at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Hall in Silver Spring, Maryland on Saturday, August 13th, 2011. The performance will feature original hard-shoe and soft-shoe choreography from Kate Bole, Kara Haslbeck, and Megan Moloney, set to music arranged by Peter Brice and Donna Long. The New Century features a dynamic cast including three-time Southern Region Champion step-dancer Phillip Stacy, senior dancers from the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance, and sean-nós dancer Kelly Smit. Following the performance, the hall will be reconfigured for a ceili called by the mighty Marilyn Moore. Beer, wine, and light fare. Doors open at 7pm; curtain at 7:30pm. Ceili begins at 8:45pm. Admission $15/$8 children.

THE NEW CENTURY is a new performance company of American, Irish Traditional musicians and dancers from Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. The New Century’s mission is to engage local, college-age and professional performers in challenging collaborations that expand their involvement in the artistically-diverse Irish community of the Capital Region. In so doing, the New Century aims to increase over time the number of local performers, the quality of local artistry, and the cultural footprint of the Irish tradition in the Mid-Atlantic region.
