Girsa in Woodbridge June 22 — FREE!

Irish-American traditional music group Girsa performs a free concert in Woodbridge, NJ on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m.a

Concert site is Parker Press Park, 400 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, across the street from Berkeley College and immediately adjacent to the Woodbridge NJ Transit train depot (North Jersey Coast line). Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

The Girsa concert is part of Woodbridge Township’s summer-long “Woodbridge Wednesdays” series featuring free entertainment events every Wednesday through Aug 31. Musical styles include Irish, Reggae, Blues, Classic and Indie Rock, Folk, Latin, Jazz, Americana, New Orleans and more.

Girsa means “young girls” in Gaelic, and the band lineup is precisely that:  eight young women from Pearl River, New York who perform traditional Irish music, song and dance in a style that blends reverence for cultural roots with flashes of contemporary pop brilliance.

Members Maeve FlanaganDeirdre BrennanKristen McShaneMargaret Dudasik, Blaithin LoughranBernadette FlanaganPamela Geraghty and Emily McShane play 15 instruments among them  including fiddle, whistle, low whistle, accordion, mandolin, guitar, keyboard, bodhran.

*  All Woodbridge Wednesdays events are free and open to the public. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
