An Evening of Irish Music and Poetry with Author Colm Tóibín and Narrowbacks

Howard County Poetry & Literature Society’s 33rd Irish Evening
HoCoPoLitSo, the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society, will host its 33rd Annual Evening of Irish Music and Poetry with award-winning novelist Colm Tóibín on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 8 PM at the Jim Rouse Theater, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia, MD 21044.
Twice shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in fiction for The Master, and winner of the Costa Book Award for Brooklyn, Tóibín is the author of five novels, two short collections and a play entitled, “Beauty in a Broken Place.”  The Los Angeles Times calls him “… his generation’s most gifted writer of love’s complicated, contradictory power.”
  • Tóibín’s reading will be followed by a concert of traditional Irish music by Narrowbacks featurng Brendan Mulvihill, fiddle, Linda Hickman, flute, Eileen Estes, vocals, piano, Terry Winch, button accordion, and Jesse Winch, bodhran and guitar with step-dancers from the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance.

HoCoPoLitSo, the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society, has been enlarging the audience for contemporary poetry and literature since 1974 and producing “The Writing Life” a 30-minute writer-to-writer talk show seen on HCC-TV, Comcast Channel 96 or Verizon Channel 41 since 1986.
