Brian Prior RIP

Forwarded by Paul Keating, North American PRO:

A chara:

We received the sad news that Brian Prior, a very dedicated and wonderful CCE project officer passed away today in Ennis where he lived. Always helpful and cheerful, he made visits or phone calls to the Culturlann a pleasure as he endeavored to be as welcoming and responsive to everyone, no matter their role in CCE or beyond. In an effort to encourage many younger and older Irish music students, he initiated the wonderful Fionn Seisuin series of tunes to learn and play together at sessions that came in companion booklet and CD formats. He put all that skill into practice by leading the weekly Wednesday night sessions in the ground floor Culturlann pub and on Saturday nights at Cois na hAbhna in Ennis, County Clare where he lived with his family. Brian was also a very valuable member of the Clare Fleadh Nua taskforce for CCE and in 2001, the 50th Anniversary of CCE’s founding, he suggested a reunion of all the Senior All-Ireland Ceili Bands which resulted in a very historic CD and video documentary.
Brian Prior was an example of a man devoted to the CCE ideals and organization and the common joys of traditional Irish music which he enjoyed immensely whether he was playing his fiddle or listening to others. He also was a highly valuable member of the cyber community for Comhaltas as he often rose to its defense when CCE was being attacked or criticized in various discussion groups . Perhaps more importantly through his nom d’internet BANNNERMAN he continuously posted links on topic and off of Comhaltas Live or Youtube video that he thought would be of interest to the surfing community on the web where he was as outgoing as he was in person.

Brian leaves a wife Anne and children Anna, John and Ashley and condolences and cards can be sent to:
