Catskills Irish Arts Week!

The 15th Annual Catskills Irish Arts Week promises to be another historic week in East Durham. As usual there will be 95 classes with many of the finest musicians from both sides of the Atlantic teaching twice a day.   There are daily lectures, evening concerts and ceilithe from Monday to Friday that will inform and entertain all fans of traditional Irish music and dance plus multiple sessions all around the East Durham area.

Of Special interest this year are the following:

  • Lectures by Don Meade on the Venerable Mike Rafferty, Earle Hitchner on Unskirting the Issue: Irish and Irish-American Women Who Turned Irish Traditional Music History into “Herstory” on Thursday,  Kieran Jordan Screening and Lecture on Secrets of the Sole and Traditional Irish Dance and Brendan Dolan on the Irish Catskills and the Historic Role of Irish Music on Friday afternoon and some more offerings.
  • CD launches by GIRSA ,bohola, Mike Rafferty and Willie Kelly on Wednesday night,  and the Pride of New York Quartet  on Thursday (Joanie Madden, Brian Conway, Billy McComiskey and Brendan Dolan).   There will also be special launches of Mary Bergin’s New Tin Whistle Tutor Publication and Eileen O’Brien’s new book about the Music of her father Paddy O’Brien, both projects coming direct from the Irish launch at the Willie Clancy Summer School.
  • On Friday night there will be a special Tribute Concert to the late Joe Madden
  • The Week concludes with the day long Andy McGann Irish Music and Dance Festival on Saturday, July 18 from noon to 7 pm
