Founded in 1962, winners of 6 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award, The Chieftains: founder and leader Paddy Moloney (Uilleann pipes, tin whistle), Matt Molloy (flute), Seán Keane (fiddle) and Kevin Conneff (bodhrán, vocals), have popularized traditional Irish music world-wide during their astonishing 50 year career. Over the years, some of the biggest names in music have worked with the legendary band: Sting, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and The Rolling Stones among many others. The Chieftains are recognized for bringing traditional Irish music to the world with a style that is as exhilarating as it is definitive.

Old Bay Céilí Band – CD Release Concert & Céilí
The Old Bay Céilí Band recently released its debut CD – Crabs in the Skillet. The band is having a concert and céilí to celebrate on Sunday, December 4th in Washington, DC at Acre 121 in Columbia Heights – www.acre121.com.

The musicians and dancer from Teada’s Irish Christmas in America show (www.irishchristmasinamerica.com/) will be giving music and dance workshops on Monday, December 13th from 6:30-8:30pm. This is a great opportunity to take a workshop from a group of stellar traditional musicians and a top Sean-nos dancer. The workshops will be at Gonzaga High School (19 I St NW, Washington, DC 20001), near Union Station.
The group is offering the following instrument and dance workshops:
Fiddle – Oisin MacDiarmada
Guitar – Sean McElwain
Accordion – Seamus Begley
Concertina – Grainne Hambly
Uilleann Pipes – Tommy Martin
Sean Nos Dance – Brian Cunningham
Each workshop is limited to ten people in order to provide an intimate learning environment. The cost is $30 per person and is payable the evening of the workshop.
