Lilting @ Brogue! Solstice Craft Extravaganza!
Plan to bring the holiday weekend to a mellow close with an evening of fine, trad Irish music @ Old Brogue Pub in Great Falls, VA. Flutist/whistle player Tina Eck joins forces with bouzouki/banjo player Keith Carr, both outstanding exponents of their crafts, as the duo Lilt. This is Irish music in its purist form, at its best! Foot percussionist extraordinaire, Matthew Olwell, will join them in their Brogue performance, as will fiddler Joe Dezarn (the latter at the 5 p.m. sitting only). Dine divinely as you sip mulled cider, Irish coffee or my particular favorite, a pint of Old Speckled Hen while you toe tap your way through the concert!
The Brogue is located at 760-C Walker Rd. in the Village Centre in Great Falls. There are 2 sittings, 5 & 7 p.m., tickets are $15 each. Please call the Brogue at 703-759-3309 for reservations. More information is available at http://www.ionamusic.com/brogue.shtml.
And don’t forget that you can take care of all your Celtic shopping needs @ Solstice Craft Extravaganza on Saturday, 12/10 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Swift Run Lodge, 7116 Swift Run Trails, Fairfax Station, VA. One stop shop with 8 of the finest Celtic artisans on the East Coast (gold & silver jewelry, leather goods and trad clothing, pottery, fine art, pewter work, handcrafted soaps, candles and knitted goods, stoneware jewelry, quilting and more! There will be a session going all day (bring your instruments and join in!), with lots of different CDs available. I just heard that Jody Marshall will have a new Holiday CD out – a must for every stocking! Participants provide homemade goodies and there’ll be cider and wine mulling all day. Photos & info available at http://www.barleybranstoneware.com/solstice.html.

Please join Pat, Sean and Tabby for this special house concert–they will provide an evening of Celtic music in the great hall of fiddly Dave VanDeventer and Morgan’s beautiful riverside home near Bluemont.
Pat sings heartfelt Irish songs and ballads like no one else and accompanies Tabby’s zesty Celtic harp, piano, and accordion with brilliant guitar work. Sean plays soulful, low-down whistles.
Pat, originally from County Tipperary, has spent many years performing and teaching at major festivals and concert venues. He is known for founding, with accordion player Paddy O’Brien and Uillean piper Michael Cooney, the internationally renowned band Chulrua.
Tabby is well known in the northern Virginia /DC area for her multi-instrumental performances and recordings in various genres, with the Bogwanderers Ceili Band, Jug of Punch, the Scones, Sleat, and Mucho Gusto.
Sean is originally from Belfast, has shared the stage with his friend Paddy Keenan, and brings a full array of large and small whistles to the trio sound.
Directions: Driving west on Rte 7 from Leesburg, go over the mountain & get in the left lane as you head downhill. Just before the Shenandoah River bridge, turn Left on Rte 606, River Rd. Go a couple of miles and look on your left for balloons, the field for parking, & the Shepherds Ford sign .
