Rockland Concert w/ Martin Mulvihill CCE Branch Music Students

Thursday, February 24th, 7-9:30pm @ Cultural Arts Center

Please join us for our 3rd annual CrossRoads Ceili which will begin in the Atrium with a cup of tea and home made bread & jam. Traditional Irish music and step dancers will warm us for the show that follows.

The Danu Gallery, Pearl River, will display an oasis of contemporary classics from admired Celtic artisans.

7:45 doors open to theater.
Manhattan Lyric Opera Company will perform some Irish classics followed by the Martin Mulvihill Branch of CCE who are students of The Pearl River Music School, teachers Rose Flanagan, Patty Furlong and Margie Mulvihill. The group consists of All-Ireland Champion medal winners in both band, solos, group and song. These young people are the best and brightest young stars on the Irish Music Scene and they are from right here in Rockland County.

Kiera McGeever is a Harpist in the group “Strings of Tara” founded by Eily Paterson. They have performed with Andy Cooney, Crystal Gayle, Ciaran Sheehan, Ronan Tynand and Gay Willis. Performances include Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and the P.B. S. special “From Galway to Broadway” Kiera will give us some solos.

The Mulvihill group will also feature the newest young hot trad band on the scene Ceol Millis (Gaelic for Sweet Music). They will perform a lovely mix of lively tunes and wonderful traditional songs. The finale will include the students joined by their teachers and the famed O’ Flynn / O’ Sullivan dancers.

The event is free and open to the public. However, you will have the opportunity to support our RCC Students in their efforts to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity as they continue to build a home for another deserving family in Hillburn NY.

We hope you’ll join us for a great nights craic (Irish for fun).

Mulvihill Branch Session by midatlanticcce

Mulvihill Branch Session

This just in:

Hi Everyone!

This coming Friday is the first of the month and we’ll be holding our monthly seisun/meeting of the Martin Mulvihill branch of CCE at the AOH on Railroad Avenue. The music starts at 7:30 starting with the beginners.

All musicians are welcome to attend!

This month, like last month, we’d like to take some time to go over tunes for the groupa ceoils for the fleadh in April. All the kids are welcome to come and learn and the little ones are even encouraged to play the tunes they know before we start practicing the fleadh groups. We really need to see those children who have been told they had a spot in the groups. We have so many students in the under 12 and under 15 age groups and they all want to be part of the groups. If your child is unable to make practices we need to be aware of this so we can make the changes. Parent’s–we need your help!! please make sure that your children are practicing. It’s unfair for those who are putting forth the effort to sit next to someone who isn’t–the bottom line is the children must know all the tunes well to be part of the group.

We’d like to keep this to a no-snack meeting as the clean up will be so much easier on everyone and more time can be devoted to the kids who are trying to play music

Please keep in mind the the fleadh will be held on the weekend of Apr 1-3 at the Parsippany Hilton instead of Pearl River middle school as in years past .

We are having a complete fleadh weekend with ceilis on Friday and Saturday nights and the competitions on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday night the Comhaltas Hall of Fame will be held and we’re honoring Margie Mulvihill and her husband John Reynolds as well as Don Meade and Jim McGinty. This will be a wonderful night so please plan to put together tables for this huge event!

Mulvihill Branch Christmas Party

Just a reminder to everyone that this coming Friday is the annual Christmas party for the Martin Mulvihill branch of CCE. The fun starts at 7:30 with the beginner student seisun, followed by intermediate and then advanced tunes. We’ll have an Irish Language lesson as well as some dance instruction.

This year instead of asking everyone to bring something for the food table, we’re going to be ordering pizza . We’d like to have a rough
idea ahead of time as to how much we should order so please let us know if you’re going to make it this Friday, and how many you will be bringing. You can e-mail your response to myself, Margie or Patty.

Debbie Donovan, our newly appointed branch secretary, will be there to take membership forms and dues for this coming year.

There will be a special visit from Santa as well so we ask that you please bring a small, wrapped gift for your child (with their name on it)

Hope to see everyone there!

Martin Mulvilhill Branch Meeting

Friday, November 5th at 7:30 pm

This in from Rose:

We will be having a meeting of the Martin Mulvilhill branch of CCE and our student seisun this coming Friday, November 5th at 7:30 pm.

As in our past meetings we will start with the beginner students, move on to the intermediate students and finish off with the advanced students who will be joined by the adult musicians from the area. We will also have an Irish language class and a set dancing and/or ceili dancing class in between.

It’s always a great night out for the kids and the parents and all are welcome to attend. Please mark your calendars as this will be a first Friday event (unless a conflict arises) for the rest of the year. At this meeting we will be renewing old memberships and hopefully gaining some new members so please bring your checkbooks. Hopefully our new secretary Debbie Donovan (our thanks to Debbie for taking on the roll of secretary) will be on hand to enter memberships. All the information on Comhaltas will be available at the meeting and either Patty or Rose will be able to answer any questions you might have.

Take care

Benefit Show, Jan 3rd — Help Request by midatlanticcce

From Patty Furlong:

Hello Everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas AOH party. Thank you for a wonderful turn out!!!

We are planning a benefit for one of our student’s dads who has been critically ill. The benefit is being organized by Annmarie Acosta, Margie, Rose and myself. as we have all taught Sean Plunkett (affectionately known as Bob a loo – not sure of the spelling …Annmarie).

Sean’s dad has been seriously ill. He underwent a bone marrow transplant in October at New York Cornell Medical Center. He has developed many complications and still remains in critical condition. The family is under financial strain and is not able to make ends meet.  We are organizing a benefit to help out the family on Sunday – January 3rd from 12n-10pm at Rory Dolans in Yonkers..

We need your support (both financial, physical, donations for auction etc.) to help. This is one of our own who is going through a hardship.  With 3 weeks to go, we are actively trying to organize the performers, the raffles, Chinese baskets, the advertisements and whatever else needs to be done.

Rory Dolan’s is generous enough (again) to allow us to use his establishment. (Thank you Rory.)

Each school will be assigned a committee to head. We are meeting on Tues pm to finalize everything.

We know this is bad timing (when is it good timing?) but we will be asking for help, so thank you in advance.  We hope none of us ever have to go through this.

Thanks,

Patty
