Trains from either direction arrive in Middletown at approximately 12:20. Email irishshore@hotmail.com NO LATER than the day before if you need a ride from the station. Transportation will be provided free of charge for the 12:20 train only. The New York train leaves Penn Station at 11:07 AM.

About the Workshop

The slow air — an instrumental rendition of a love song, lament, or song of remembrance and farewell — is regarded by some connoisseurs to be the crown jewel of the Irish musical tradition.

The class will start by playing simple melodies from the Anglo-Irish song tradition and progress to learning some of the highly ornamented gems of the Gaeltacht’s sean-nós song repertoire. Along the way students will acquire all the essential techniques of slow air playing: slides, scoops, casadhs, vibrato, and more.

This workshop is for intermediate level (and above) players of all melody instruments, with a special emphasis on the tin whistle, flute, and uilleann pipes.

Questions about booking or transportation should be directed to irishshore@hotmail.com. Questions about the workshop itself should be directed to Bill Ochs at bill@pennywhistle.com or 212-247-3231.
